Did you know that your next DIY dog project might already be sitting in your IKEA shopping cart? For a long time, I had an idea in my mind. How to turn budget-friendly furniture into stylish ideas for my dog. Well, after looking into a couple of IKEA hacks, I wanted to share my findings with you.

Why spend hundreds on fancy dog beds and pet organizers, when you can visit a local IKEA store, and transform their affordable pieces into custom pet furniture?

If, like me, you love IKEA’s sleek and minimalistic design, but you wish they catered more to pets, here is a dirty little secret. IKEA caters to pets, but not in the obvious way. You have to dig deeper. Luckily, I am here to help you understand how to find purpose in simple IKEA pieces.

A Dual-purpose Dog Crate

Crate training is one of the most important aspects of raising a well-mannered puppy. But dog crates can be quite expensive. Add in the challenge of finding a place to put the crate, and things can get messy. If you live in a small apartment, I have something for you.

Gulliver changing table, a staple IKEA product, is cheaper than dog crate furniture. It is a multipurpose piece that can serve as a nice nightstand while hiding a pied-a-terre for your pup. All you have to do is remove the middle shelf and then add a small tension curtain rod with fabric. Voila, it is now ready for your furry friend to hang inside.

Window Watching Shelf

All dogs love windows and sunlight, but not all dogs are big enough to watch outside of the window. Your pup surely wants to see more of the outdoors. Sadly, we cannot take our pups outside every hour. What we can do is build a sightseeing platform. All you need for this DIY project is an IKEA Fabian shelf.

The design is for small breeds, and even cats can get into it.

For this DIY hack, you need IKEA Trofast shelving units, and you can find out more how to make it here.

Paint Chip Dog Bed

Raise your hand if you thought the IKEA Lack table could look like this. I surely haven’t. But I love it. This four-poster canopy bed will add plenty of color to your interior design. And it is easy to make. You can customize it however you like. Paint it, add wallpaper, contact paper, or anything in between.

Doggie Steps

Let’s finish off with a useful hack, shall we? Many of us have dogs that need a bit of help to get on the couch, bed, and similar. Buying original doggie steps is quite expensive. Instead, you can get IKEA Knaggling boxes and make them your own. They are stylish and work amazingly. Add in some cushion, and your dogs can hop on the bed whenever they feel like it.
